French officials have consented to start stopping small boats in the English Channel, after an extended period of pressure from the United Kingdom.

This policy shift comes after the British leader wrote to the President asking him to support the plan and saying there presently "have no effective preventive measure" in the maritime passage.

French maritime police have been authorized to stop the small boats at sea, but exclusively prior to they've collected their passengers, according to official statements.

French police have rarely acted to prevent the heavily loaded boats leaving the shoreline because it is viewed as excessively high a danger to both personnel and individuals.

"It is crucial that we implement these methods this month... We have zero effective deterrent in the Channel."

Currently, a French maritime police spokesperson states personnel will begin taking action at sea, with the objective of safeguarding lives.

Significantly, the spokesperson ruled out the use of entanglement devices to intercept boats, which had previously been reported as a possible technique to disable the engines of the boats.

The decision to intervene at all is a major step forward, following a short-lived change towards a stricter strategy this warmer season, which ceased when the previous Interior Minister left government.

This was demonstrated in the summer month, in the run-up to a meeting between the UK leader and French president, when French police were observed walking into the sea to slash the hulls of a vessel.

Now French officials will once more be allowed to intercept boats before they collect migrant passengers from the coastal areas of northern France, although it's uncertain how the vessels will be prevented.

Strong winds are presently postponing the start of intervention operations and the human trafficking gangs will be seeking methods to adapt to evade interception, as they have done so often in the previous instances.

UK immigration authorities and the Prime Minister's office have been contacted for comment.
